Thing 5--Digital Citizenship

As technology grows, it is really important for technology users to be knowledgable of Digital Citizenship. The video I watched to teach me more about digital citizenship focused on netiquette. Which explains the etiquette that should be used online. Netiquette is very similar to real life etiquette. One should always use their manners and communicate properly, treating people the way they would want to be treated. Often times it is easier for people to have poor netiquette because they are behind a computer and not talking to someone in person. However, it is still very important that students, teachers, and parents know how crucial it is to have good netiquette. Whether it be a parent, teacher or other adult that teaches someone how to use technology, that same person should teach them the proper etiquette that goes with using that technology. Therefore, if teachers are implementing the use of technology in their classroom, it is important for them to teach students why and how they should use proper etiquette. Teachers should know that students know how and will use shortcuts such as BTW and LOL, unless they are informed not to. Parents should know that when communicating with teachers, it is important to use proper etiquette, even when communicating through emails. Parents should also know the importance of proper etiquette so they can teach their children why and how to use it with technology. Students must know the importance of netiquette and what not having netiquette can cause for their lives. Such as not having proper netiquette when communicating with their teachers, responding to a blog post, or completing an assignment online.

RSS feeds

How do you handle information overload and how do you think RSS might help with that? Being that I am a college student in the Elementary Education program, often times I am overloaded with information. Usually I try to mentally organize the information as best as possible, using my planner and email account whenever possible. However, using those methods of organizing information is getting overwhelming in itself. Using google reader and RSS feeds is a very effective way of organizing information. This will help reduce stress by making organizing more effective and productive. Not only will this organize the information for me, but it will continue to seek more information for me and organize that new information. Continuously seeking new information and knowledge is a key part of being an effective teacher and google reader and RSS feeds is a great tool for productivity.
